1. "How would you feel if a bear made it's den beside this stream?"
Cole shrugged "I'd kill it."
The potbellied elder nodded with a knowing smile. " Animals feel the same way. Don't forget that. You aren't the only creature here. Your part of a much bigger circle. Learn your place or you'll have a rough time."
-Edwin warns Cole that whatever he does to animals, he does to himself. If cole wanted to survive on the island, he would've had to watch how he acted. This relates to our theme in the aspects that every action has a reaction.
2. Garvey hesitated. "Remember something else. You're wasting everybody's time if you don't truly want change."
- This is another warning that was given to Cole before he was banished to the Island. Ultimately Cole completely disreguarded any warnings given to him, and ended up getting mauled by the spirit bear. Had Cole heeded the advice given to him he could've avoided the bear attack all together. It wasn't a complete loss though. Cole learned from his actions and became a better person because of it. which ties in to the theme "success: How our choices affect our success"
3. "Then what?"
"Then, I'm afraid, you go to trial and face sentencing."
"A jail term?"
Garvey nodded. "Most likely."
Cole looked down and picked at his thumbnail.
"How are you feeling about that?" asked Garvey.
" I wish I hadn't blown my chance on the island."
Garvey nodded. "We all have things we wish we could do over again."
-Cole feels regret over given up his chance on the island. He wishes that he could redo his actions a different way, so as to change his current situation. This definitely plays into our theme as Cole's actions have hindered his chances at success in life.
